Helpful tips for your portrait experience.
Here is some helpful information that will hopefully help you prepare for
your portrait experience. Many of our sessions take place outdoors. Keep in mind
that there may be lots of trees and greenery, and depending on the time of year,
some colorful flowers to fill the background of your portraits. There are many patterns
and colors in nature and your clothing should not compete. I want YOU to stand out since
you are the star of the show! Please keep your clothing choices simple, clean and
pressed. Try to coordinate colors if you have more than one person, in order to
simplify the look of the portrait. Bright colors and busy patterns are
distracting. Yellows and greens cause skin color casts and are usually not
recommended. Classic is best and remember to wear what is comfortable for you,
especially when it comes to children! Fun colors are usually fine for children
but remember to coordinate with adults for family shoots. You may bring extra
clothing changes if necessary. For cold weather portraits, hats, gloves and
scarves are always fun props. When you make your final clothing choices, lay
them all out together on your bed. Look for any distracting colors or patterns
or something that just doesn’t belong.
Makeup should be worn as you normally would apply it. A light dusting with
face powder is recommended to reduce the shine on foreheads, chins and
noses.
Hair should be cut one to two weeks prior to your shoot to allow your hair to
“relax”.
Nails should be clean and trimmed and freshly polished. Don’t forget your
toes if you plan to go barefoot!
If you want to appear tan in your photos, then tan before your session
as harsh tan lines are hard to edit out later.
If you self conscious of certain areas of your body, please choose flattering
clothing choices. - Sleeves camouflage larger arms, flowing skirts help hide thighs etc.
This is Kansas so it can be windy at times, keep this in mind when planning hair styles.
If you are planning to have your hair down, bring barrettes, hair ties, hair clips etc. to nicely
control your hair if needed.
Bring tennis shoes to walk to different locations. You can change into your hills or sandals
once we get on-site.
Get plenty of rest the night before your shoot.
Make sure children have eaten or had a snack before you arrive for your shoot.
Most children are happier with a full belly. You are welcome to bring extra snacks
or drinks with you to have during the shoot as well.
Feel free to bring along any props or items that are special to you or your family.
